On January 12, 2010, a violent earthquake registering 7.0 on the Richter scale shook Haiti close to its very populated capital city, seriously disrupting the country's infrastructure, including the electrical system and the telecommunications network.
To help alleviate the devastation caused by the quake, Canada is providing humanitarian assistance to Haitians affected by the disaster.
